“Limitation makes the creative mind inventive.”
— Walter Gropius, 1925
Our ethos has its roots in the Bauhaus mantra “form follow function”. As a practice we positioned more towards to the practical rather than the sculptural. This is our core and we can pretend to be nothing else.
We’re all about problem solving. Stripping the issue right back and piecing it back together in a new, modern and sustainable way.
We’re client focused and design focused. When we talk about sustainability we’re not just talking about solar panels and battery packs; we’re talking about generational longevity. We use the word “value” from the very beginning of every project because value is not just financial; it’s subjective.
The RIBA Plan of Work defines the clients requirements as “A statement or document that defines the Project Outcomes and sets out what the client is seeking to achieve”.
Tom Irwin
Founding Architect
Tom began his architectural journey in the late 20th century, earning RIBA and RIAS Silver Medal nominations and the top postgraduate award at Edinburgh College of Art. He spent his early career in London, working with leading practices on high-profile projects and building a solid foundation in design, delivery, and the business of architecture.
In 2016, he took the leap and founded Square Peg Bureau, driven by a desire to do things a little differently. From the start, he’s built a reputation for pragmatic, design-led solutions that respond to the unique goals of each client. After consolidating the practice in London, he relocated to the south coast, where he continues to bring energy and focus to every project—alongside a healthy appreciation for life beyond the desk.
